How To Have a Halloween Party With A Difference This Year

Instead of the same old themes of the Halloween party, try out the historical theme and make the most of it. Here are some interesting ways to recreate the ancient aura in this year’s Halloween party.

Dress Up To Suit The Theme

Let the grandeur come inside and be the essence of the Halloween party. Keep in mind to stick to the theme especially in case of the attire.

* Be innovative with dresses spanning from the Victorian era, the popular, conservative yet elaborate dresses.

* If you wish to be more creative in the Halloween party, then go for the Gothic attire. It would be an ideal option because the Gothic era dressing was synonymous with vampires and Frankenstein.

]]>

* Even jackets with big golden buttons of the Medieval era are quite apt for this year’s Halloween party.

Accessories Of Horror

Instead of the regular Halloween party props like a witch with a broom or a pumpkin, try out something scarier.

* Carry a miniature coffin with a bat jumping out of it.

* The famous Dracula’s blood filled mouth can be recreated with artificial colors.

* To add to the horror, artificial fangs can be added with a pirate hat.

* Do not forget to kohl your eyes as it creates more drama to the look.

* In case of the pirate look, do remember Captain Jack Sparrows’ dark complexion with black marks.

Recreate The Horror

Along with dingy and dark atmosphere, create an atmosphere of fear by adding creepers et al. Put a lot of creepers along with long genista yellow flowers hanging from the roof. Put some on the entrance as it reflects the theme of the party. Ensure that the colors should be bright enough to highlight the dingy décor. The overall look can also be achieved with Ireland bells hanging all over the venue. Besides, you can add dry grass along with artificial cobwebs to create an authentic look.

So what are you waiting for? Get ready and have a Halloween party with a difference!

Halloween Party Ideas 2009

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year – a perfect opportunity to have a Halloween Party. Whether you are having a child’s party or adult party there are many themes and ideas that will keep your guests talking for years. Here are a few fun and easy suggestions:

Costume Party. This is nothing new, but you can put a twist on it. You can make it a Pirates and Princess party for kids or a male/female pirates party for adults. Famous people party works best for adults, with costumes available for celebrities, sports personalities, politicians, etc. If your crowd isn’t the type to put on elaborate costumes, simply ask everyone to dress in black and orange.

Non-Spooky party. Kids, especially young ones, can be scared by the darker side of Halloween. If you want a non-spooky party for kids, try a different theme like a sports party (where guests have to dress up like dancers, hockey players, football players, sumo wrestlers, etc.) Super heroes is also a fun theme. A girls’ party could be princesses and fairies. Animal costumes is another easy crowd favorite – especially if you decorate the room like a Halloween barn.

]]>

Invitations. Home made invitations are always fun and impressive. You can print photos, clip art or pictures from the internet to glue on paper. You can also cut the invitation card into silhouettes – like ghosts, pumpkins, witch hats, etc. The invitation could have something that springs out when the viewer opens it. Stickers and confetti are easy ways to decorate cards. Keep the card stock in Halloween colors like black, orange, purple or green.

Decorations. My favourite party look for Halloween is to replace all of the lights in the party room with black lights. Put black tablecloths on the tables, cover the walls with black paper or black posters. Cotton batting, spread thin to look like cobwebs, can decorate your black table cloth. Get white plastic plates so they will glow in the dark and appear to be floating on the table. For kids, Mountain Dew is a great beverage to put in clear plastic glasses, since it glows in the dark. Strings of orange lights are available at many party and dollar stores. Use these to line doorways and walls, or put them inside pumpkins instead of candles.

Food: Black and orange foods are always appropriate (such as as orange cheese, Cheetos, black licorice, chocolate, pumpkin cupcakes) as is spooky baked goods and candy. Carve out pumpkins and line them with clear plastic bags to use as chip bowls or flower centerpieces. A glowing fruit punch bowl or colored ice cubes make for fun drinks.

Music. Burn a cd ahead of time with fun Halloween and Thriller type songs. Sound effects are fun to mix in. You can often rent or buy dry ice machines or disco balls if you want to make the dance floor really “spooktacular”.

Top Ten Party Themes for Boys

Superheroes such as Batman, Spiderman, Superman and and Ben Force 10 are great inspirations for parties for boys.  Invitations can be made based on the comic book characters, and hero masks and capes are easy to make for guests.  Persuade an adult friend to dress up as Batman or Spiderman and teach the kids some karate moves or use the LEGO videogames as a basis for the activities. Use theme music in the background, or movies and set the kids some action adventures and challenges with prizes.  Party favors such as temporary tattoos and sticky plastic spiders are really popular with boys.  The food needs to be simple but dream up some imaginative labels such as Spiderman Power Punch , Big Chill Icecream and  Bat cookies to perpetuate the chosen theme.

Thomas the Tank Engine is a popular theme for boys with a fascination for trains.  A great party idea would be taking the kids on an actual train ride, or to an old train station where you could actually hold the party.  Failing that, with imagination you can transform your house or garden into a series of stations with tracks painted onto butcher paper. Each station becomes an activity point with fun crafts, ending up  with a freestanding train face with a hole so kids can put their head through for a photograph. These go home with the thank you note.   The regular party games easily convert to having a Thomas piñata and playing Pin the Number on Thomas.

]]>

Harry Potter parties can get a little more complicated.  Ask guests to come in their favorite wizard costumes and plan activities by consulting the books and movies.  A treasure hunt would work and have the Harry Potter board game and DVD on hand.  The official Harry Potter colors are green and orange, so select balloons, streamers, and other Harry Potter decorations in these colors.  Some of your Halloween decorations might be recycled into use to add a spooky effect, and of course a hired magician should do the trick!

Pirates are a wonderful theme, as you can base the party on Peter Pan and the pirates or Pirates of the Caribbean.  It is not difficult to think of invitations in the form of a treasure map or a Jolly Roger flag, or even a message in a bottle. A treasure hunt could be the highlight of the party and hopefully you have a part of the garden where a treasure chest could be buried.   Tattoos and pirate hats, eye patches, colorful sashes and plastic swords to swashbuckle with will add to the atmosphere and all you need is Blackbeard’s “Rum Punch” and Captain Hook Hamburgers to complete the party theme.

Spongebob Squarepants has a great fascination for kids and parents needing inspiration can watch the TV show for ideas.  An undersea theme works well , a Spongebob cake is easier to make than most, and fish, starfish, crabs and jelly fish are fun to make out of colored paper – either you or the kids can do this.  Other TV shows and movies popular as party themes are Toy Story which combines cowboys and astronaut themes, and the great standby of Sesame Street.  Characters such as Big Bird, Elmo and the Cookie Monster can be created with time and trouble and the bright primary colors of these characters gives you a color scheme to start with.  Wiggles parties are a good bet too because you can have the shows running on TV in the background and theme the party on the four Wiggles performers and their individual colors.

Remembering that boys need lots of activities, always plan a few extra games or activities based on noise like musical chairs, or silly fun like tying a balloon to the kids ankles with a prize for the last intact one.   Unfortunately the rule seems to apply that the more preparation, the more successful the party.  Start planning and purchasing supplies weeks before the event and pace yourself so there is not an exhausting rush at the end.  After all, it is your party too.

Pyramid, Mummies, Desert For Your Birthday Party

Ancient Egypt is really a fascinating place all these years later. From mummies and pyramids to pharos and scarabs there’s plenty of fuel for that fascination pyre. Maintain in mind however, the objective here is for that kids to get a great time, not to be frightened so keep the scary things to a minimum if feasible (even if your child is brave to a fault that doesn’t mean that some of the guests will not be frightened and you want the experience to be nice for everybody).

Decorations for this aren’t as difficult as you might think. In fact, a few of these decorations will double quite nicely for Halloween or may currently be in your Halloween stash. Initial of all, in the event you possess a canopy or tent lying about this may make an excellent substitution to get a pyramid. You can fill your canopy or tent with relics which are genuine searching for what would be inside an Egyptian pyramid. Use skulls (leftover from Halloween decorations) on the floor, gold coins (or doubloons, which could be purchased fairly inexpensively at many party supply shops), sequins that look like jewels, and fake jewellery that may have already been worn during the period. Needless to say the piece de resistance will probably be the mummy wrapped within the corner (if this isn’t part of one’s Halloween stash it should be after this).

]]>

Now, what self respecting mummies house doesn’t have a great curse to go together with it? Before allowing the guests into the “pyramid” you need to make sure they’re conscious with the curse that goes together with it. It is a enjoyable little addition to the theme along with a large amount of enjoyable to watch their eyes as you inform the tale with the mummy inside and why the tomb is cursed.

If you are still searching for excellent actions you are able to bury treasure in your sandbox (in the event you have 1) and allow all of them take turns digging up treasures and/or artifacts they can take house with them. Make certain everybody has at least 1 turn and will get 1 thing to take house from the digging.

You can both barbecue dinner or purchase pizza or some thing simple for dinner. I suggest letting the guests eat inside the pyramid for enjoyable (if it isn’t as well terribly scorching) and allow to get a showing with the Mummy afterwards (provided the audience is old sufficient and fascinated). You could also allow them to play within the tomb to get a although or allow it to be an overnight event and allow them to camp within the tomb if it’s a tent.

Great goody bag gifts consist of flashlights, glow sticks, spiders, chocolate coins, stickers, along with other candy jewellery. 1 fantastic game for an Egyptian themed birthday party would be wrap the mummy. Divide the kids into groups of three and have them take turns racing to wrap the mummy (a member with the group) in toilet paper. Do this to ensure that everybody has the opportunity to be wrapped – just be certain to use the low cost manufacturers of toilet paper for this particular project and plan on getting plenty in case they get just a little overzealous.

Most significantly you want to plan an event that’s enjoyable to take part in and which will have all your guests eager to come back for that big birthday bash next year. Just keep in mind you will be expected to leading the current theme and may gain a popularity for throwing the cool parties.

Plan the ultimate Halloween party

With Halloween only a month away it is crunch time in trying to organize the perfect bash for all of your friends. There are so many options for planning a truly spooky affair, and the earlier you start the planning, the better deals you’ll score on costumes and decorations.

Firstly, send out party invitations letting your friends know that you’re having an awesome shindig to celebrate one the creepiest nights of the year. Everyone loves Halloween so they’ll surely be on board with helping to make your party one of the best. You can find plenty of Halloween stationary and seasonal cards to send out as your invitations so that once your guests open the envelope they’ll automatically know what kind of fiesta it will be.

You should also spend some time figuring out what your costume will be. The host should have one of the best costumes of the evening, so set aside some time and think about how over-the-top you can be this year. There are so many different looks to choose from, ranging from rock star to baseball player to Frankenstein, but you can get creative and think up your very own costume and then just purchase accessories to make it your own.

]]>

Next, one should look into getting the very best decorations for their venue. Try going for a haunted house theme and purchase plenty of spooky items like skulls and bones to place around the house. Also, get jack-o-lanters with creepy faces carved into them and make sure they are illuminated with candles. You can also use the fake spiderwebs to make it seem like your home has been vacant for many years and that spiders have been crawling all over the place. Set up life size cardboard cutouts of classic movie monsters like Dracula and the Wolfman. And, if your budget allows, try setting interactive displays with witches and goblins.

Stock up on plenty of candy to satisfy the needs of the trick or treaters who’ll stop by, plus your guests. Set out paper goods like paper plates, napkins, cups and plastic tableware for your guests for when they decide to head over to the boo-ffet. Serve up delectable treats like caramel apples and red velvet cupcakes to go along with your Halloween theme.

Remember, a month may seem like a long time but it isn’t when you have so many other things going on in your life. Set aside some time to think about how scary you want make your shindig. Ask your friends for ideas and help in planning the party as it can get a bit overwhelming. There are plenty of resources for finding the perfect Halloween decorations and party favors. If you have the time, create a costume contest as well and award your guests who have gone over-the top with their Halloween getup.

Halloween themes (part II)

There is something about fancy dress which helps a party get off the ground. I find that the cool period that is normally experienced as guests arrive dissolves away with fun and humour as new characters enter the room. Inhibitions are put to one side. Costumes are an instant ice breaker.

Halloween parties are probably one of the easiest themes to dress for as there are so many iconic costumes to choose from. It would be relatively easy to attend Halloween parties for the next ten years and dress entirely differently on each occasion.

To add to the number of choices, costumes of a particular genre can be approached in different ways. A Classic Witch Costume for example, could be traditional, glamorous, sexy, or scary.

If the party has a general Halloween theme the choices are very open. To adopt a more specific theme narrows the choice, and gives the party more cohesion, ensuring all guests feel integral to the atmosphere and overall look of the party.

]]>

Some of the Halloween themes that we have explored at previous parties are: Traditional Halloween; The Count’s Kitchen; Witches and Wizards; Welcome to Hell; Rocky Horror and next year, for the first time…The Day Of The Dead.

Whatever theme you decide to run with, the planning remains the same. Whether the party is to be held at home or at an outside venue, the budget, (how much you wish to spend) is the first consideration. The largest part of the budget will probably be allocated to food, drink and room hire. Specific costs will depend on the number of guests attending.

Decorations and entertainment are fairly flexible expenses. The cost of Halloween decorations and Party Supplies can be kept to a minimum by creating your own. Home-made decorations can also be part of the fun of the proceedings, as it can involve all members of the family, old and young. The same applies to games and ideas for entertainment. As with Christmas, you will find that your collection of Halloween essentials grows over time.

Kids Halloween Party Ideas

Halloween is a secular holiday that dates back to Celtic history and medieval Christians. The Celtic link is with the end of summer and the beginning of the dark half of the year. The Christian connection is with All Hallows’ Eve which is the night before All Saints’ Day a celebration of the saints and departed faithful. Today, Halloween is associated with costume parties, carving pumpkins, bonfires, trick-or-treating and all things scary. Ghosts, witches, skeletons, devils, zombies, bats, vampires and other monsters are all associated with Halloween.

What Halloween is all About
Traditionally, children dress up in Halloween costumes and go from house to house threatening to do damage, called a trick, if they are not given a treat. In this way children collect a bag full of candy and other edibles and this is the main attraction of the day. For older children the trick is the most fun and they spread toilet paper over trees and gardens, draw pictures with soap on cars that have been parked on the street and many other innocent and not so innocent tricks.

Costumes are the Key
A kids Halloween party is a great way to channel all this enthusiasm with lots of games and prizes along with a variety of refreshments including candy. The costume is essential and one of the best parts of Halloween. Horror is not the only theme for costumes, as many people go for characters from literature, movies, cartoons and TV shows. Kids costumes can be simple homemade affairs such as a white bed sheet with two holes cut for eyes or very elaborate purchased costumes of their favorite characters. Some costumes are of objects such as a banana or a TV remote.

Children love costumes that make them feel the part. Whether they are a carrot or a pirate they want the costume to impress others. Often little girls like to dress up like fairy princesses and boys like to dress up in Spiderman or Batman costumes, but there is a huge variety of Halloween costumes online that can spark the imagination. Children may like to see other possibilities.

]]>

Halloween Party Ideas for Kids
There are three main types of Halloween parties. One is for young children that should be fun and not too scary. One is for teenagers that should also be fun but the scarier the better and one for adults that gives them the opportunity to express an alter ego.

For children 3 to 7 years there are games with a Halloween theme:
Halloween Bingo—make Bingo cards with pumpkins, black cats, witches etc. in the grid squares. These can be made with stickers.

Eyeball Toss—make ping pong balls look like eyeballs with markers and toss them into a hollowed out pumpkin.

Candy Hunt—a good way to limit the amount of candy they get and yet they have fun looking for it.

For older kids the games are a little more sophisticated. Scavenger Hunt is a traditional Halloween game and can be great fun and challenging. Lists are compiled with the objects to be found, the children choose teams, two to four people on a team, and the time limit is set. The first team back within the time with all the items on the list is the winner.

One game that can be played several possible ways is played with food. A person is blindfolded and has to guess the body parts put in front of him. These body parts are made with food. Pealed grapes for eyeballs, cooked spaghetti for intestines, mashed potatoes for brains, unpopped corn for teeth, thin carrots for fingers are a few suggestions. Usually a story goes with the game such as this is all that is left of a dear, departed friend.

Horror movie or TV trivia is a good subject for a quiz or guessing game. This takes a little time to research, but children love to exhibit their knowledge and it’s a good time to remember all the scary scenes in movies. It also makes a great charades game.

Set the Mood and the Food
The most common Halloween decorations are pumpkins and black cats, but there are a lot more possibilities. For the young children’s parties, large colorful decorations are fun with bats, spiders, witches on broomsticks and possibly a skeleton or two. For older kids there are some great possibilities for making a spooky atmosphere. Turn off the lights and light candles, provided it can be fire safe. This adds confusion as well as surprise. Make some ghastly heads out of Styrofoam, acrylic paint and modeling clay. Use them as centerpieces on the buffet table. The food on the buffet table can also be part of the decoration. Spider cookies made with cream filled cookies and pretzels for legs and foods that fit the orange and black color theme such as baby carrots, cheddar cheese cubes, licorice, orange slices and dark purple grapes.

Halloween is the time when people turn to indoor fun, at least in the northern hemisphere, and a Halloween party for kids is something special. It is a day children especially enjoy, and a party can combine costumes, atmosphere, prizes for games and food for a great experience.

Jeffrey is really just a big old kid who loves Halloween more than any other holiday on the face of the planet. He has accumulated a number of different costumes over the years but won’t wear the same one twice. He is also quite stubborn.

The Ultimate Halloween Classroom Party

A fun classroom Halloween party starts with captivating classroom decoration. The best classroom decoration ideas create big impact with little effort and expense.

How To Decorate Tables

If you are serving food, use a bright orange paper table cloth to cover the tables. One cool thing about using a solid color like orange is that it allows the children to draw Halloween related things on it. To create a beautiful centerpiece you can simply use an arrangement of white, orange and black balloons. To add additional detail to the centerpiece you can add Halloween images, plasic spiders, and suckers.

Ghosts Made From Streamers

No classroom Halloween party is complete without classroom decorations that hang from the ceiling. In order to keep your students involved you don’t want to do anything too complicated. All you have to do for this craft is start out by using a white rectangular sheet of construction paper and make a tube with a decent size diameter by taping the 2 ends together. Once you have the body of the ghosts completed you can cut some streamers using either crepe paper or white plastic trash bags. Either one works fine so it’s really up to you what you want to use. Next using some tape or glue attach the streamers to the white construction paper. Finally, allow the children to use their imagination and draw some funny faces on the ghosts! Hang five or more streamer ghosts around the classroom.

]]>

The Haunted Corner

If you have enough classroom space, create a haunted corner for younger children to go in during the Halloween party.  The haunted corner can be as simple as a lightweight black sheet or piece of fabric hung from ceiling to floor with some scary items behind it. You will definitely want to leave the haunted corner somewhat visible so you can see what’s going on the entire time and keep an eye on your students. Fake spider webs hanging from the entryway to brush the students’ heads when they walk inside or a small table with a bowl full of something slimy are a few ideas for how to decorate the haunted corner.

Activity Tables For Your Party

Set up tables with fun activity choices for the children. Provide small pumpkins that children can paint and then take home. A stack of colorful foam sheets can be used to make Halloween decorations that can be used for many years. Have the students make a background for their decoration by cutting out a good size oval or rectangular shape from one of the foam sheets. Then, give them some stencils of pumkins, ghosts, cats, witches and other Halloween themed stencils allowing them to use their imaginations and creativity to make their own unique Halloween decoration.

Classroom Decorations You Can Eat

Children seem to love doing crafts and activities, and when they are allowed to eat what they worked on when they are finished they seem to enjoy it a lot more! One delicious classroom decorating idea is to allow the children to use tubes of icing to decorate muffins. The spider pop is another edible activity. Have the students cover lollipop tops with squares of black tissue paper. Next, show them how to fasten the tissue paper with four black pipe cleaners wrapped around once so that four legs stick out evenly on either side. They can then put wiggle eyes in the center of the pipe cleaners to make eyes.

These fun classroom decorating ideas for a Halloween party require little more than the classroom craft supplies on hand. All you need is a little bit more food like a fruit tray, some drinks, and a few fun activities, and you are all set to have an awesome classroom Halloween party!
